WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Product Packaging Engineer will reimagine and redesign all elements of our consumer facing packaging, from supplement bottles and product containers to our numerous shipping vessels. This role works closely with the design team to formulate creative ideas, and will work collaboratively with manufacturing, engineering, operations and product development to develop package design solutions that are sustainable and environmentally friendly. This role will manage these projects’ deliverables in a timely and cost-effective manner to deliver a high-quality experience for our customers that is aligned and consistent with the overall brand strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contributes to a positive, collaborative, success-oriented work environment within the Marketing Department and the Company as a whole
  • Strong roster of established working relationships with various packaging manufacturers and industry brokers
  • Coordinate development of package features and benefits, storage, shipping and handling information with organization to assure full regulatory compliance and successful communication with functional teams and customers
  • Assure that package design fully incorporates insights and customer needs
  • Work collaboratively with various teams to assure that new and renovated packaging is integrated into production systems
  • Investigate and recommend cost savings opportunities with our current packaging elements
  • Understand and relate how product cost variances affect key financial metrics and decisions
  • Keep current on new packaging, processes and equipment through trade journals, professional meetings, packaging other appropriate expos, conventions and meetings with technical representatives
  • Assist in all assignments and tasks as required

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial design / engineering preferred along with strong graphic sensibilities
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership roles in packaging sourcing and design (ideally, experience is focused on the CPG segment of functional foods, nutritional supplements, nutraceuticals and other health centric products)
  • Skilled in packaging engineering, packaging design, material handling, root cause analysis, fabrication, six sigma, lean manufacturing, troubleshooting
  • Working knowledge of current FTC, FDA, and other regulatory issues regarding packaging design, layout and messaging
  • Detailed understanding of standard production cost models; designing products to achieve targeted pricing and margins. Define capital equipment needs to commercialize new products and justify expenditures against product potential
  • Solid understanding and connection with consumers and market packaging trends
  • Take ownership in problem identification and resolution to facilitate new or improved packaging, package upgrades, new or improved processes and cost-savings, and environmentally mindful
  • Must be creative and articulate and capable of collaborating with ProCaps founder and other departmental leaders in the design process
  • Must be a highly motivated individual with excellent organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and capable of working on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Responsible for the process to identify and implement opportunities for material reduction and recycled content for food contact materials.
  • Works closely with Quality, Production and Procurement investigating packaging component issues and documenting in CAPA’s, NCRs and quality observation reports.
  • Analyze and provide support to all activities to achieve all marketing objectives and assist to launch new products and reduce cost of production.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • May be required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, balance and reach
  • Periods of sitting, typing, and viewing a monitor (we provide a standing desk option)
  • Able to lift up to 25-50 lbs.
